MISSION STATEMENT
AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
WHAT IS AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness elective offered to students who would like to prepare for four-year colleges and universities. AVID Scholars are motivated to work toward college eligibility by working on their writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills. These students are given the support and instruction they need to succeed not only in middle school, but also in college-prep and AP high school courses. The AVID elective supports these students in at least one honors/advanced middle school class.
AVID AT KELLY MILL
Kelly Mill Med Pro Middle is AVID Schoolwide and an AVID National Demonstration Site. This means that teachers in all content areas use research-based AVID strategies to teach their classes. All students are expected to maintain an AVID binder and take Focused Notes. Our school has hosted visitors from all over the country coming to see AVID implemented schoolwide.
